So to keep doors open... [20 Feb 2009|11:50pm]
I'm applying to 19 colleges. And the process of completing and turning in applications is trying on my patience.

My word of advice to everyone transferring out of CCCs...
Find a couple of dream colleges, a few shoe-ins, and keep the list short. Your experience in academia = quality of faculty + quality of friendships + a liberal amount of what you make it of it all... so don't place too many colleges on the scale for comparison. You'll find yourself on the fence in the worst way.

...but I'm a follow-through kinda' guy.

Oh!
Cabrillo's Music Lab has precise fret maps detailing Shawn Lane's rendition of Giant Steps!

I've been working really hard to overcome bad habits on guitar, namely excess thumb pressure, legato in-fluidity, and unusual inversion articulation and this jazz guitar techniques course in which I'm enrolled has been infinitely helpful with all of that shit.
Guitar is my greatest escape.

State Dependent Learning [16 Oct 2008|03:26am]
I've wanted to major in an active science since I began taking classes at the college level. Two years ago, that science was Astronomy, specifically, Astrophysics. Last year, I realized that for me to major in Astrophysics would require a unilateral shift towards mathematics for the next 3 years, just to satisfy the requirements before I could transfer to a University (and that I was probably just high all the time, and therefore, thinking extra EXTRA wishfully). It wasn't until this summer that I really found my niche... Psychology. I've always had an affinity for the discipline, so I decided to jump on the transfer train and I enrolled in 4 psych classes (and 2 non-psych) this fall, totaling 18 units.

-Intro to General Psych
-Intro to Biological Psych
-Intro to Developmental Psych
-Analysis of Death and Dying

I'm definitely continuing my major, but with a concentration on Biological Psychology. My Bio-Psych professor is an extremely wacky former guitar teacher who returned to Cabrillo for the first time this semester after undergoing a heart transplant! This is his terribly constructed website, but it's definitely characteristic of a Fetterman creation [ http://www.cabrillo.edu/~tfetterman/ ] Anywhoo, I hired a college transfer assistance company(Coast 2 Coast Colleges, they strive to be extra awesome and very personal) to compile a list of shoe-in schools.

1. Eugene Lang College
2. Pace University
3. Hofstra University
5. Wagner College
6. Syracuse University
7. Fordham University (I'm not so incited by the Jesuits, but their psych-department is world class)
4. Northeastern University
5. Boston University
6. Suffolk University
7. Curry College Boston
8. American University

It's the Atlantic that attracts me so.

I'm exhausted. Here's a quick and incomplete update on t3h life (with some thoughts), the length and detail of which is contingent upon my level of exhaustion.

-I swap between these 3 books which I'm enjoying the hell out of:The Dispossessed by, Ursula K. Mcginn (the first female sci-fi author, Octavia Butler followed hear lead), Prometheus Rising by, Robert Anton Wilson, and Email to the Universe by, Robert Anton Wilson. I highly recommend checking out R.A. Wilson to anyone interested in metaphysics. He appears so collected in every video interview and lecture I've seen as though he's already thought extensively about what the questions directed at him regard.

A collection of clips from various lectures Wilson gave

- On the General Election: Genuine decency, empathy, vigilance, consistency, and utilitarianism have proven to be popular in the context of 2008. This one is in the bag. I'm stoked.

-Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn includes more characteristically 'Star Trek' dynamics than any of the theatrical releases. Kahn is hands my favorite of the series. Every diehard trek fan must have left the theater in '82 somewhere within the four stages of grief after Spock's altruistic and ship saving decision to enter the warp room.

I've been busy as all fuck since the semester started. Seriously... no free time during the week. I didn't include most of the things I've been doing in this post so hopefully I'll have time to post a much more complete 'Max' update sometime soon.

-much love,
Maxypoo

I'm amongst so many compassionate, competent and creative individuals.

This is great, and for me, a new kind of great.

The Shakes: Left Half [21 Jun 2008|03:18am]
I consistently feel as though I'm clenching my fist and the nerves extending from the tips of my left hand's fingers to the back of my neck are reacting respectfully. The sensation is relentless and it's literally plaguing my dreams.

Worst of all, my guitar playing is suffering and the severity (which could be replaced with 'frequency', because that's what it feels like) increases when I smoke.

I need to see a specialist.

The spring semester at El Camino ends this week. My last final is later today (it's 1:19am). I've been more excited for summer activities back in the day, but I'm excited none the less.

I'm going to Las Vegas on the 12th with Charlie. My mom promised a 21st b-day trip to vegas as her present for me; so Helen and one of her better friends is coming with. I have 2 goals for this trip:
1. See George Carlin's performance at the Orleans Hotel.
2. Operation: Return BC to the Nexus. Which entails: Spending a night drinking (heavily) at Richard's. Slipping him a sleeping pill... Stealing Battle Cat. Calling a Taxi. [In that order]

Slipping Richard a sleeping pill is the only incriminating part of the process. So I'm considering smoking him out like a bastard. But weed isn't a guarantee and this is the only real chance I have to snatch Battle.

I realized today that I don't think I'll ever be comfortable in a romantic relationship with someone better at guitar than I. It's one the of the only permeant expertise I enjoy. The same goes for Halo.

Ooh! and
Let me introduce you to Paul Gilbert. I love absolutely everything about this guy.
